My new baby! Fujifilm X 10 (*v*)

However, a friend from Berlin, Peera, who is a photographer and does not work for any certain company, recommended the Fuji X 10 to me. To be honest, I didn't think about a fuji at the beginning, first I thought about an Olympus or Canon but when...

What type of 35mm camera should I buy?

I have been using disposable cameras in the past and have decided to buy a proper camera, I have been looking at point and shoot film cameras but realised that you can buy an old SLR for pretty much the same amount of money! then I read into 'lomo' cameras like holgas etc Its all very confusing to me as I am a total beginner photographer, I like to travel a lot and prefer film photos to digital, should I buy an old SLR and learn how to use it? should I just go for a compact (like Olympus Mju2) or should I go for a 'lomo' camera like a Holga etc? Price range - £0 - £50 Are lomo's just a cheap plastic waste of money? because the photos people have taken on them look really interesting. I do like the 'abstract' and simple feel to disposables and holgas as it seems like its left up to chance if your photos are good or not.

Are lomo's just a cheap plastic waste of money? - in a word YES! You should be able to get a decent used Canon EOS with a 28-80mm zoom lens for under £50. You can get good shots on full auto while you learn to take full control. Unless you really need interchangeable lenses don't rule out rangefinders. The more expensive end have interchangeable lenses but there are some good ones that don't - Yashica GTN, Olympus Trip 35 are very good cameras and well in your budget. On older cameras check batteries before you buy. Many used mercury cells that are now banned and the replacements can introduce metering inaccuracies. For info - I got a Canon EOS 50E (body) £20, a battery grip (to use AA batteries) for £8. I use the EF lenses from my digital EOS. I also got a Mamiya 4b (early 1960's vintage rangefinder) for £22 - big advantage is fully mechanical and Selenium meter so no batteries!

The Lomo cameras always look like cheap plastic rubbish to me. You can do plenty of abstract things with an SLR and filters. If you want really abstract try some infrared film in a 35rmm camera! Personally I'd go for an SLR because you can always get other lenses for it, or go digital later if you want. The viewfinder makes it much easier to compose your pictures and an SLR is likely to be better built and last longer. There are some real bargains to be had with film SLRs, particularly if you want older models without autofocus because most people don't want non-AF lenses any more apart from macro photographers.

You can use a film camera, if you have an understanding of the different types of film and what situation calls for them. Otherwise you could be wasting money. Digital on the other hand shows results immediately and can be a very useful tool to learn what settings work in different scenarios. I started a very long time ago with a Nikon 4004s which was a film camera and never really got into photography until a few years back. I picked up a point and shoot and was hooked. I graduated from the point and shoot to a Nikon D3100 and began learning how to use the manual settings. Less than 6 months later(and a lot of saving) I stepped up to a Nikon D600 and have been amazed at the difference. The D3100 has a dx sensor and the D600 has an FX. I can't really tell you exactly what that means but I do know the fx is a full frame camera. I love it! If you are trying to decide on film or digital, I would say that depends on if you know how to develop your own film. There are developing techniques that cannot be achieved digitally. Aside from that, digital has the benefit of not wasting film(using a film with the wrong ISO and having everything underexposed or overexposed) AND not knowing until the film is developed. Digital is a right now medium. Save up to get a starter DSL. You are looking for a camera for roughly 75 U.S.D.? Good luck with that. My D3100 with a kit lens and a telephoto was around 800.00 U.S.D.(522 BPS) and my D600 with a wide angle and telephoto was 1830 BPS. Where the real money is spent is on glass. Good lenses(mine are mediocre) can be as much or more than your camera body. Some prime lenses(used) can be 3000 BPS but they make a huge difference. Let me put it to you like this: If you have a 100.00 camera and a 1000.00 lens, you will take 1000.00 photographs and if you have a 1000.00 camera and a 100.00 lens, you will take 100.00 photographs. Usually the photographer's own vision and creativity is what determines whether a photograph is good or

Since film cameras are discontinued, I would look for a Pentax K1000 film camera. I am pretty sure even today's lens for digital camera will fit. It would be a good idea to contact Pentax for confirmation. That way when the day comes you want to go digital at least your lenses will fit current DSLR's. Please don't go for Lomo photography. It is cheap and plasticy and the results are very much "hit and miss". The interesting effects you see are some of the few that turn out reasonable. Try to buy a Canon , Nikon or Pentax SLR. They will have manual controls which will teach you a lot about exposure and focussing. Just be aware that you will have to keep buying film and if you intend taking a lot of photos, it will become expensive for you.

I recently bought a vintage film camera on ebay and I can't figure out how to work it?

I used to have an IS-300 olympus which was almost completely automatic but it recently broke. I went on ebay and bought the cheapest functional film camera I could find, a KS-500 Sears with a 500 mm lens. Having always used an automatic, I can't figure out how to use this fully manual camera and I can't find any instruction manuals online. Any ideas? I can't figure out how to open the back in order to reload film.

This is a re-badged Ricoh XR-500, Aperture priority only 35mm SLR, taking lenses in Pentax K-mount. You set the ASA/ISO around the rewind crank, select the aperture from the lens barrel, make sure the viewfinder LED isn't blinking, point, focus and shoot - Butkus have the Ricoh manual. It's an unremarkable shooter, but not too bad - the KR-10 with manual override was much better, and had a formidable reputation in its time.

have you tried taking it to a camera shop, or your local university that teaches photography?
keerok | Jul 06, 2013
Look for a manual at http://butkus.org . Buy ISO 200 film as it is the most forgiving. Research on "The Sunny f/16 Rule. Shoot under the sun for the time being until get the more than the hang of it. To open the door, pull up the left cap.

Great quality at a modest price

If you are in the market for a camera strap, you will soon find there is a huge spectrum of prices and design options available. Personally, I was looking for a camera strap for my Canon camera and I had three features in mind: 1) a strap with a design/pattern that I liked, 2) a strap with a width at least 1-1/2 to 2 inches wide, and 3) a strap that was affordable, preferably under $20.I purchased the EzFoto Multi-Color Neck Strap with some hesitation. I loved the design based on the photo, but I was skeptical about the level of quality since the strap was, at the time of purchase, under $10. When I received the camera strap, I was pleasantly surprised with the quality and durability of the item.PROS:* the design and pattern colors of the strap are well represented in the photos* the quality of the strap: durable, made well* width of the strap is approx. 1-1/2" wide* affordableCONS:* the directions on the box are... 5/5 MLK (United States) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) great strap-doesn't fit

0 2/5 Charlene S - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Vintage VNH Multi-Color Neck Strap for Canon Fuji Nikon Olympus Panasonic Pentax Sony Cameras (Multi) (Electronics) This is a great strap; not as wide as the "hippie" guitar strap i had in the 70's on my Pentax SLR camera. It is the perfect size for today's smaller digital cameras. BUT the black attachment part of the strap does NOT fit my new Olympus SP815UZ. The strap is too wide to thread through the camera's slots! Since I even tried trimming it with scissors (it unravels badly) I cannot return it. The strap measures 15/32". The Olympus SP815UZ takes a strap 3/8" wide. Be careful! 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , September 7, 2012

    Perfect camera bag/ purse combo.

This review is from: Cosmos Brown PU Leather Vintage Camera Shoulder Carrying Protection Bag for Canon Nikon Sony Olympus Kodak Panasonic Fujifilm Cameras Dslr Len + Free Cosmos Cable Tie (Electronics) I wanted a camera bag for my Canon DSLR Rebel, that I could take on day trips and such, but I didn't want a big black bag that screamed "I'm carrying around an expensive camera!". This bag is just the thing. The shoulder strap has a cotton/canvas feel and is very comfortable. ( I was expecting one of those hard nylon ones that dig into your skin). The stitching looks nicer than I expected as well. The interior is padded well, and fits my camera w/lens, and has room for an extra lens next to it, plus a little extra space for misc. things. The exterior pocket in the back is nice, good place for a phone, wallet, or car keys if you only want to carry one bag around. I think the photo makes it look kind of like shiny plastic, but I was pleasantly surprised it doesn't look that way in person. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , May 16, 2013
